Taryn Beckman explores a novel prometabolite strategy to combat cardiometabolic disease

In a new paper published in JCI Insight, postdoctoral scholar Taryn Beckman and colleagues report findings in A prometabolite strategy inhibits cardiometabolic disease in an ApoE−/− murine model of atherosclerosis. The study describes how a bioengineered conjugate of L-serine and butyrate, called SerBut, can overcome long-standing hurdles in harnessing the therapeutic potential of short-chain fatty acids.
